okay, lets start a debate here?
as we all know, Rick Owens is doing a collab. with the famous sportswear brand, Adidas. as always, Rick's design is on spot. its clear, clean, and simple, and as usual his groundbreaking mind develops new innovative concepts, like here, where the heel and toe is seperated. however, I must admit, that im very critical towards the collaboration..
one side of the argument may claim that Rick Owens is doing what is best for the brand by making the items more accessible; by working together with at (generally) "cheaper" brand. this will expand the target audience, and appeal to a more street costumertype.
however, thats exactly my biggets concern. my main problem with the collab is the fact, that this might make Rick Owens mainstream, just like what happened with Kenzo (when they this summer, made a collaboration with Opening Ceremony). suddenly, people who never before, gave a fuck about Kenzo, suddenly felt that Kenzo was just their favorite brand in the world omg. this is frustrating, because we are some who appreciated the brand in a long long time.
what do you think? am i ríght? or am i just an arrogant bastard?

i get your point. it's like one of my friends who can only enjoy music who no one ever fucking heard of and when it gets mainstream - she stops... the music (or the brand in your case) should be just as great as it has always been, no matter how many who wears it or listen to it.

(ofc you do, the daft punk) which is actually pretty good. its not so much that everybody listens to it (there are plenty of other songs which are mainstream, like, i dont know - single ladies, whatever) but its overplayed. its the fact that people often claim they appreciate something when in fact they dont know what they are appreciating.

I follow your concerns about making Owens mainstream. Maybe this might sound arrogant, but making such a wonderful brand into something mainstream is such a shame. One of the cool things about buying Rick Owens (and other bands stuff) is, that you can feel exclusive while you wear it. Feel that you have been spending a lot of money on something unique. And by collaborating with Addias Rick Owens break with that.
